Legend of Sri Kesari Hanuman Temple

History of Kesari Hanuman Temple

Kesari Hanuman Temple Hyderabad was built over 300 years ago during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It was built by a saint, Samartha Ramdas Swami, who was a devotee of Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama. And he also was the guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

So, while Maratha ruler Shivaji was fighting with Aurangzeb, his guru was setting up Hanuman temples around the country. And this site, near River Musi, is one of the places where he installed a statue of Lord Hanuman.

That main Hanuman statue is in the basement of today’s temple, where the priest performs all the holy rituals.
